Potpourri Ingredients
One can’t deny the fact that flowers are outright gorgeous. For this reason, we try to hold on every single petal of the bouquet we receive, till the very last leaf wears off. It is a stunning thing that can be kept in your center table in the living rooms, kitchen, and even bedrooms. It smells great with the fresh blossoms. But as the flowers dry off, the smell also goes away. Well, not! There are still some of the ways by which you can spread the sweet fragrance of flowers that lingers across your home. For this, one of the best ways you can go for is making potpourri using dried flowers. And for that, you need to be well aware of all the potpourri ingredients that can be used. Before we head on to steps that are included for making potpourri, let us first start to work with the dried flowers.
Pressing the flowers
One of the best ways of keeping your blossoms preserved is to press them. Start to press them when they are still fresh and free from moisture. If you’re planning to make potpourri at home, then just pick up your favorite flower from garden and press it immediately. This will allow them to keep their colors intact. While pressing the flowers, keep the petals from overlapping from each other. You should keep heavy books for pressing flowers this will give them a flat texture.
Dried flowers
When we talk about using the dried flowers as in potpourri ingredients, you will have a wide range of choices. You can choose from flowers like roses, hydrangeas, or rudbeckia. All you need to do is to hit the right combination. Once you do it, use a tray and cover it with paper towels. Keep them in the place that’s warm and airy. Do check the flowers at regular intervals. If the flowers become over-dried, then the fragrance would wither off.
Mix Scents in a Potpourri
When you’ve completely dried off the flowers, it is the time to combine the scents. You need to select the right kind of flowers that would go well with the fragrance of the potpourri. Most of the times, flowers aren’t enough to produce the intense aroma. Thus, for that you need to blend two-three different oils to give shape to a great end product. Add 5-6 drops of aroma oils for the accent scent you want to get for your potpourri.
